What is Anxiety?

Anxiety is a common and natural response to stress, characterized by feelings of fear, dread, and uneasiness that can occur in anticipation of a real or imagined threat. It can manifest through various physical symptoms such as a racing heart, sweating, trembling, and an inability to calm down. Anxiety disorders differ from normal feelings of nervousness or anxiousness, and involve excessive fear or anxiety. Anxiety disorders are the most common form of emotional disorder and can affect anyone at any age. While the exact causes of anxiety disorders are unknown, they can be a result of a combination of genetic, environmental, psychological, and developmental factors.

Options for Treatment

Treatment for anxiety is highly effective and often involves a combination of psychotherapy and, in some cases, medication. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT),  including solution focus, is a popular and effective method for managing anxiety by altering negative thoughts and behaviors. For anxiety tied to trauma or deep emotional patterns, mindfulness and stress management techniques are also useful. In our practice, we tailor treatment plans to each individual, incorporating strategies that respect the client’s cultural background and personal preferences. This personalized approach helps ensure that clients not only manage their symptoms but also build long-lasting coping strategies that support their overall mental health and well-being.
